Long-Term Treatment for Polio

For those that develop a disability from polio, there are considerations to discuss with the healthcare provider, including:

  • Mobility aids
  • Breathing equipment.

The Treatment and Prognosis for Polio

While there is no cure for polio disease, most people recover without any long-term problems. However, some people (less than 1 percent) will develop permanent paralysis. Unfortunately, there is no treatment that can prevent this complication.
